Sign up to coach today! Volunteer coaches are the backbone of West Texas Fastpitch by teaching valuable life lessons and a love for the sport that lasts a lifetime. Coaches not only teach the skills and fundamentals of softball, but bring passion, dedication, and fun to every practice and game. Without our amazing coaches, none of this would be possible.  *All volunteers are required to undergo a criminal history background check once a year as a safety precaution. All coaches are required to attend a coaches clinic and rules interpretation meeting held August 26th at West Plains High School.

Volunteer to Coach Background Check

  1. All adults in the dugout, on the field, or helping with practices must have a current cleared background check on file with West Texas Fastpitch.
  2. A coach from your team must attend the mandatory coaches clinic and rules interpretation meeting held at 6:30PM at West Plains High School August 26th.
  3. You are responsible for your coaches, players, parents, and spectators behavior. Please make sure you have read through the coaches, players, and parent/spectator code of conduct to know the league's expectations. We will follow the West Texas Fastpitch disciplinary policies if the code of conduct is violated.
  4. Read and stay current with local and USSSA national rules. 

DRAFT COACHES CAN PROTECT A MAXIMUM OF 6 PLAYERS: This does include the coach(s) kids. IF JUST PROTECTING YOUR CHILD, YOU STILL NEED TO COMPLETE THIS PROCESS SO WE DON’T OVERLOOK ANY COACHES KIDS WHEN PUTTING DRAFT TOGETHER.

PROCEDURES FOR PROTECTING 6 PLAYERS: Complete your online coaches registration which will have a spot where you list your protected players. Make sure you have the spelling correct with first and last name only like it is listed on their birth certificate..Complete your background check unless you completed one this past fall and make sure ALL your assistant coaches do the same. Please follow up with them and make sure it gets done. It’s required annually and there are no exceptions. Make sure you email your protected players by the registration deadline your list of protected players to wtxfastpitchsoftball@gmail.com. Make sure they are committed to be on your protected players list. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure ALL your protected players get registered by their parents by the registration deadline. No player will be allowed on a coaches protected players list unless they are registered online. PROTECTED PLAYERS DO NOT ATTEND EVALUATIONS AS THEY ARE PICKED FIRST BY THE COACH. If you are coaching and DO NOT HAVE ANY PROTECTED PLAYERS, complete your online coaches registration and background check.

 Criteria for disqualification of service 

 A person shall be disqualified and prohibited from serving as a volunteer coach with west texas fastpitch if any of the following conditions apply...

  • Fails to consent to a personal criminal background search 
  •  Is currently serving probation for any offense 
  •  Has been incarcerated for a felony offense
  •  Has a felony conviction of any kind in the past seven years 
  •  Has been convicted of any offense involving a minor
  •  Has been convicted of sexual assault, child abuse, or child neglect on any level 
  •  Has been adjudged liable for civil penalties or damages involving sexual or physical abuse of children 
  •  Has been convicted of a terroristic threat

  • Has been twice convicted for misdemeanor offenses of any kind in the past five years 
  •  Has been subject to any court order involving any sexual abuse or physical abuse of a minor, including, but not limited to domestic order for protection 
  •  Has been twice convicted during the past seven years of any combination of the following: 
      •  Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) 
      •  Driving Under the Influence (DUI) 
      •  Misdemeanor violations of the Controlled Substance Act
